Seven patches in the works

Microsoft is planning to issue 7 security bulletins on next week’s “Patch Tuesday”.

In its usual advance notification, the software giant promised today to end the patch year with seven security updates scheduled for December 11 to fix flaws in Windows and Internet Explorer. Windows Vista will be affected by five of the seven updates.

If everything goes as planned, three fixes will be rated “critical”, while the remaining four will be labeled “important”. According to experts, one of the “important” updates will be the Macrovision patch announced earlier.

As every month, Microsoft will also update the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Unless it yanks one or more from the list at the last minute, Microsoft will end the year having released 69 security bulletins in 2007, nine fewer than 2006′s total, but 14 more than in 2005.
